Australian Idol 6, Final 12: A Dozen of Idols' Idols
September 14th 2008 08:54
Tonight, each contestant will sing a song sung by their idols. In the promo throughout this past week, they kept saying about the change within the voting system this year. The rumour I heard was that before they close the voting lines, they will reveal the bottom 3 contestants to the public, and then give the public a last minute chance to vote for who they want to stay out of those bottom 3 dwellers.

It's a brilliant idea on paper, but I think will backfire bad. One of the greatest things about this show, for me, is how an underdog / underpimped contestant can beat the frontrunners. Shock eliminations may be annoying, but it gives underdog contestants a chance. With this new system, there's no way in hell an underdog is going to win.
Here it is. Oh my goodness, are they running out of budget or something? The stage looks exactly the same as last season, ahaha.
First up is Wes Carr. Apparently, he got kicked out of school when he was 15. He was really naughty. I honestly didn't expect that. Singing U2 - Beautiful Day on piano. This should be interesting. He sounds a bit like Bono too. The bridge part is a bit weird and out of tempo, but overall enjoyable.
DIcko: Terrific start. Great intensity when you perform. One question. Why piano?
Wes: Just like to show versatility.
Dicko: I think that's a bit too early, too "try hard"
Marcia: It's a beautiful day cause it's your birthday! Great job on your part.
Kyle: Will we ever see you without the hat? That was a cracking start. I understand what Dicko is saying, either stay on the piano or flick it right away.
Vocal: 9 --- Performance: 7 --- Song Choice: 10
Secondly, It's Tom Williams. Loud cheers from the teen girls in the audience already. He was hospitalised when he was 15 months old. Singing Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing. As expected, the maturity in the song is not present. Oops, he spits a bit. Vocally, technically, it was good, but not my thing obviously.
Marcia: I wanna call you Thomas, as your mom does. Very game song for you. But watch your pitch!
Kyle: You're going to be very popular on this contest. I know it's easy for someone like you to get far, but don't get trapped in songs that are too big for you. Good luck.
Dicko: Monster ballad always suits your voice. Go back to shirt and jeans, tonight looks like your mom controlling your outfits.
Vocal: 7 --- Performance: 7 --- Song Choice: 7
Third up is Roshani Priddis. She works at a financial service company. Her adopted dad is the drummer in the band she's in. Joss Stones - Tell Me About it. Finally, she picks a funky song to sing. Man, she's a cool performer, but the camera shots are a bit tedious. Excellent vocal. Finally I like her again.
Marcia: Congrats! You just created magical atmosphere, you look dynamite!
Kyle: I like this look, this one has more edge. Less Commonwealth Bank. Totally love it. Perfect.
Dicko: This is where you need to be. Perfectly confident performer. Sexual chocolate.
Vocal: 9 --- Performance: 9 --- Song Choice: 8
The fourth performer is Teale Jakubenko. He gets a loud cheer from the teenage girls too. Creepy, he and his 7 brothers look the same. Singing Rick Price - Walk Away Renee. I never heard this song before.
Kyle: Wow. You sailed through, but strange song choice. I know you're a Rick Price lover. Well done.
Dicko: Odd song choice, still doesnt give me clues of what kind of artist you are. But you improve as a singer. You need to find more confidence. Good effort.
Marcia: Rick Price was in my band at one point. Good Job. You need to stand still to sing that song though. Well done
Vocal: 8 --- Performance: 7 --- Song Choice: 6
Fifth singer is Sophie Patterson. She is singing Mr. Jones by Counting Crows. i love this song. It looks a little bit "funny" though without playing the guitar.
Dicko: slow sexy moody is your style.
Marcia: I think you need to learn how to articular clearer. I like you better when you're looking funky.
Kyle: I actually like your look. I didn;t know you're a red head, I thought you're underdone but good luck.
Vocal: 8 --- Performance: 7 --- Song Choice: 10
Luke Dickens is up next. He introduces to us his life as a shearer. He's expecting a baby apparently. He is singing Joe Crocker - Feeling Alright. I didn't expect him to be groovy and all. Well, definitely his best peformance, by default since he sucked on his first two performances.
Marcia: You're moving on stage. That's cool like a white boy. I think you take this seriously, I'm happy with that.
Kyle: We love your sound, your billy goat thingy voice. You look comfortable. That was 10 out of 10.
Dicko: You are getting better and better. Great song choice. One problem, is that chin hair going to stay there? watch that space!.
Vocal: 7 --- Performance: 8 --- Song Choice: 8
Brooke Addamo is next. Her friends say she looks quiet but she's crazy when antagonised. Wow, her mom looks almost as young as Brooke. Her mom says her husband is very abusive, and Brooke watched that as a kid. Painful childhood. SInging Natasha Beddingfield - These Words. While it's great that she is out of her comfort zone, it's pitchy.
Kyle: You should have stuck to the ballad I think, or maybe not. Difficult song to sing. You have that spunky face but I dont know if your magic was on that performance.
Dicko: I was thrilled to see you doing something more youthful. A joyous performance, sensual voice. You got the best voice in this competition.
Marcia: Beautiful girl especially after I see your mom, I think you did that song well.
Vocal: 6 --- Performance: 8 --- Song Choice: 9
Next up is Thanh Bui. He's showing off his martial art, still lives with his parents. And he says that's normal for Asian culture. He's apparently married, I didn't know that. He's a singing teacher, a manager in a clothing retail store. Singing Maroon 5 - This Love. Oh no, I hate this song. He arranges the song like as it's coming from a boyband CD. Oh no, why is he heading this way.
Kyle: For such a fine singer, I think that comes from Adam Sandler movie. You're such a great act, but the arrangement is dodgy. You didnt do yourself any favour.
Dicko: You're a major talent, but you have to learn how to keep it simple. You overcomplicated it. I saw you with just a piano last night, that was magical.
Marcia: Thanh, you've done it. Dont apologise. I agree with what Dicko is saying, but well done.
Vocal: 8 --- Performance: 5 --- Song Choice: 3
Madam Parker is next. She is from New Zealand. Recently, she flew to New Zealand to visit her son. I'm glad that she apparently is musical too, she plays guitar. She is singing Neyo - Closer. Great song choice. Great performance. I hate her look though.
Dicko: You are gold, you've very quiet with me, but you're not on stage. Very sensual, just fantastic.
Marcia: We're proud of you. Well done, girlfriend!
Kyle: All the clapping aside, I'm gonna tell you the truth.....you are ON FIRE! you're THE BEST TONIGHT! you're IT!
Vocal: 9 --- Performance: 8 --- Song Choice: 10
Jonny Taylor is next. His mum was a drummer when she was younger. Jonny loves to jam in a band with his brother who;s the drummer. Singing Pearl Jam - Better Man. I love the song. He sings good but not that exciting for me.
Marcia: I can't read your brain, but you looked relieved when that was over. Gotta learn how to overcome your nerves.
Kyle: i enjoy that. Two things that bother me is the violins, and also how you pronounce cant like "c unt" instead of the American way. But well done
Dicko: I like Pearl Jam. I played that song every week in my car. You got real intensity, but in this arena tonight I don't see that.
Vocal: 8 --- Performance: 7 --- Song Choice: 9
Chrislyn just revealed she slept on the couch instead of the bed in the Idol mansion. She says she just loves lying there.
Chrislyn Hamilton is up next. Her parents divorced when she was six, she's been living just with her mom. She sings a lot in school for musical. Singing Aretha Franklin - Think. Oh my, she keeps singing predictable choices. A lot of yelling as expected. It's not bad by any means, but just too expected. She got standing ovation from Marcia and Dicko, and feet clapping from the audience.
Dicko: You're 17 but such an old soul. One serious word: your size is not serious with you, but I would recommend you to get on the treadmill, coz you lost your breath after that performance.
Marcia: Absolutely brilliant, girlfriend!
Kyle: Well MIss Thang, anyways, like how the old man used to do........................TOUCHDOWN!
Btw, I'll join you on the treadmill!
Vocal: 9 --- Performance: 9 --- Song Choice: 2
Mark Spano has the pimp spot. He lives in a flat behind his grandma's place. Singing INXS - Never Tear Us Apart. The voice is awesome, but the running around the stage and his playful face ruined the seriousness and intensity of the song.
Marcia: I think you walked out to the stage and had purpose,. you know what to sing, well done.
Kyle: You're the real deal, perfect song choice. That's cherry on the cake tonight.
DIcko; Fantastic way to end the show, masculine, very cheeky boy. You sing and move like a rock star.
Vocal: 8 --- Performance: 6 --- Song Choice: 10
